Spirit Branch pt 2

So we dug through my ribbons, yarns, and beads, created something that was meaningful to each of us, and said a few words as we tied our first offerings on.  Then I lit a candle and some kyphi to enhance the atmosphere for some meditating I want to do later.

The spirit branch is sparse, but it’s only going to grow more and more beautiful with time.

Spirit Branch

My wish/focus for the next month is trying to relearn focus in meditation and having a regular spiritual practice.

Bear’s focus is to build momentum from his last paid voice over job to try to get more jobs, and start to make a living from his voice over work.

Today Bear and I are here at our local Korean sauna, doing the annual ‘I don’t celebrate my birthday anymore, but I still want to go to the sauna’ trip.  I’ve been looking forward to this for weeks.

There are so many good things about this place.  Right now I’m sitting in the red clay room, which is supposed to help remove toxins from your body.  I like it because it’s one of the cooler of the hot rooms, and it’s a good way to start.  We’ve been here about an hour, and I’m just now starting to break a sweat.  Other rooms include the charcoal, jade, gemstone, salt, and silver and gold rooms.  There’s also a pool, and men and women only areas with hot and cold tubs.  No clothes are permitted.

One of the main drawbacks is the insanely delicious restaurant right in the middle of the common area.  It lures you with its intoxicating scents to eat until you’re stuffed.

But the main thing that I really crave here is the warmth.  From the moment you walk in the front door, the heated floors on your soon bare feet feels like a hug.  To be honest, I’ve never enjoyed the heat much.  I’m very much of Anglo-Saxon/Celtic stock, and sweating usually isn’t my thing.  But the warmth just soaks into your muscles and joints the way that the cold soaks in on cold days like today.  You don’t even notice how cold you were and how tight your body was until you aren’t and it isn’t.

Love that.

There are also other lovely touches, like the bags of herbs hanging from light fixtures in each room.  From what I can tell, mugwort makes up a large percentage of the blends. I’ve always been very scent-oriented, and the scent of mugwort now takes me here to the place where I can be warm and comforted in the middle of winter.

I highly recommend this.

Ways to be nicer to myself

Lately I’ve been feeling some pain.  I’m not sure exactly what it is, and I don’t have insurance so finding out will be tough.  I need to get to one of the community clinics here near home, but there are so many hoops to jump through, that the idea just stresses me out.

And I know that stress is part of my problem.  The more stressed I am, the more I hurt.  So for now, I’m trying to come up with ways to do some self-healing, keeping in mind that I WILL actually get to a doctor at some point.

It’s affecting my life more and more, and it needs to go away.

I did a week-long smoothie fast the week before Ostara as a general cleansing/life reset.  It was lovely, and it actually DID help me feel better.  I had some energy problems (I was trying to wean myself off of Coke Zero too, and the headaches were HORRIBLE), and I got pretty sick of smoothies.  But I actually felt lighter, healthier, and just better.  I want more of that.

During that time, we went to a friend’s house, and she’s on a mostly raw food diet right now.  We sampled some of her snacks and WOW.  I could do that.  Not all the time, but now and again.  I was shocked and pleasantly surprised.

I’ve also been reconnecting with my spirituality, getting interested in crystal grids, and talking to other pagans.  It’s been lovely.

Here’s my partial list of ways to be nicer to myself.

  • Meditate more.
  • Leave Fetlife, and spend that time/energy on writing, spirituality, my family, something that feeds me rather than drains me.
  • Organize myself, including putting together a day planner.
  • Get my YouTube channel going.  I really feel the call to express myself this way now.
  • Set up a crystal grid for creativity, and one for abundance.
  • Finish Altar of Change (I’m close).
  • Try to do vegetarian at least one day/week.
  • Smoothies for breakfast MOST mornings.
  • Finish the kyphi, and maybe a few other incenses to sell.
  • Sleep enough.
  • Start hiking.
  • YOGA!

This list will grow as I come up with other things.

I also have a new Pinterest that I’m playing on.  You can find it at http://pinterest.com/amieravenson/.  It’s really just a way for me to gather some thoughts, and there may be some character sketches there.  There’s definitely a lot of lovely Pagan imagery.  🙂
